Going on holiday soon and want a 'beach body'?
Here's the Fitter You proven method:
1. Go to a beach
2. Have a body
3. Repeat steps 1-2
You might think this is at odds with the advert you may have seen that led you to sign up to this mailing list, but hear me out.
As I have got older, my motivation for working out has changed.
I joined a gym in my 20s because I wanted to build up my body
I walked in there and was terrified, thinking everyone was looking at me.
Of course, what I realised as I went more frequently, was that no one was looking at me, not really, and that everyone there had their own neuroses and insecurities.
But still, and for the next 10 years, my main motivation was appearance - did it cross over into excessive interest, ie. vanity? Probably.
And there is nothing wrong with that.
Seriously, if that's your primary motivation, go for it
There is nothing wrong with taking pride in your appearance.
As I worked on and developed my body, so my overall confidence grew.
I invested in my body and in turn with that, my opinion of myself and respect for myself.
[Important note: I'm not saying these are symbiotic for everyone, but they were for me - I was a very skinny kid and my confidence previously was linked to that)
However, now I'm past 35, my priorities have changed.
Yes I still work out.
Yes, I would be lying if I said I wasn't pleased with my continued aesthetic development.
However, more than anything, I want to create a strong and healthy body that will allow me to do what I want for as long as want.
And the more I focus on that, the less I care what other people may (or may not think of me) - or more likely, the less I care what I imagine they think of me.
Life is too short to give a rat's ass about other people's opinions.
So yes, start (or continue) to workout, to invest in your body, but remember that the mind and soul are part of that body, and developing all three will serve you in good stead.
The takeaway of all this is go to the beach, wear whatever you want, and never, ever feel ashamed about who you are.
Now go jump on that lilo!
